2025 at Mackey and Douglass Hall Buildings on Howard
University’s campus!
BisonBytes is Howard University’s first-ever technical-based
hackathon, a 24-hour coding competition hosted by students
from the College of Engineering and Architecture’s students!
Any undergraduate student can participate as a hacker!
Yes! If you are a student in the DMV area, our application
includes an option to request travel assistance.
BisonBytes is completely free! We provide free food, amazing
prizes, and networking opportunities with sponsors.

No. Howard University is a dry campus, meaning participants
are strictly prohibited from possessing, consuming, or
distributing alcohol, drugs, weapons, or other prohibited
substances. Violating this rule will result in
disqualification from the hackathon.
Absolutely! All skill levels are welcome, and we even have a
beginner track this year to help new hackers get started!
Yes! We will have an overall grand prize as well as prizes
for each competition track.
No worries! We will have a Discord server where you can
connect with other participants before the event. Plus,
during the hackathon, we will host a Meet-Your-Team building
activity to help you find teammates!

Yes! Participants are allowed to leave and return during
daylight hours. However, there will be a lock-in period at
night where participants will be required to remain inside
the venue and focus on their work. If you choose to leave
during this lock-in period, you will be disqualified from
the hackathon. This policy is in place to ensure the safety
of all participants and maintain a secure environment
throughout the event.
Yes! We will be serving full meals, plenty of snacks, and
even boba!
